Manshylina T. Human-geographical studies of the development of satellite towns and suburban area of Kyiv

In the thesis spatial-temporal features of the development of satellite towns and suburban area of Kyiv, changing functions and suburbanization in the commuting zone of the capital of Ukraine are revealed. The features of the spatial structure of suburban area of a large city, its functions and signs of satellite towns are determined, modern processes of interaction between a large city and suburban areas are systematized. Methods and techniques of human-geographical research of satellite towns and suburban area of large city are improved. The factors of the development of satellite towns and suburban areas of Kyiv are characterized; in particular, the impact of demographic change and the labor market situation; migration, economic, environmental, informational, and institutional attractiveness of the studied area are estimated. Functional and spatial analysis of the development of satellite towns and suburban areas of Kyiv, the peculiarities of the spread of industrial, service and residential functions by sectors of Kyiv's suburban area are carried out. Functional typification of the satellite towns of Kyiv is provided. Issues of the development of satellite towns and suburban areas of Kyiv, ways of its solution, and new directions of the interaction between Kyiv and its hinterland are identified.
