Essay

Object: Stavropigion Institute in the context of national-cultural movement in Western Ukraine in XIX century for the preservation and study of historical and artistic heritage. Objective: recreate the process of preparing in stages and work of Archaeological and Bibliographic Exhibition, learn the basic premise that led to its discovery, to outline the basic principles of organization and functioning of the exhibition, to identify achievements and losses for Ukrainian science and culture in general as a result of the event, to organize and analyze all gathered at the exhibition complex of monuments. Methods: analysis, synthesis, analogy and comparison, abstraction, generalization and systematization, historical-chronological and quantitative. Results: for the first time on the basis of appropriate methods of scientific research the Fund of written sources of the history of Archaeological and Bibliographic Exhibition is comprehensively analyzed, the unknown pages of Stavropigion Institute activities in culture, its cooperation with other community organizations and religious institutions of that time are highlighted, the contribution of the Greek Catholic Church in conservation cultural values and formation in the walls of the Institute of first collection of Ukrainian religious art is summarized, comprehensively systematized collection of monuments Stavropigion exhibition, which gathered more than 1,200 units, grouped them and historical and artistic analysis is made. Scope: for writing of research, making of the scientific and methodical guides on the history and culture of the Western-Ukrainian region of the Habsburg monarchy period, the writing of history textbooks on Ukrainian culture and art in Western Ukraine, Ukrainian museology, in practical museum and local history work.
