Essay

The thesis examines the state policy in the field of cinematography in the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic during the latter half of 1960s - the first half of 1980s. Based on a comprehensive analysis of historiography, archival materials, published documents as well as periodicals, the thesis describes features and implementation mechanisms of the ruling party ideological politics and its influence on the creative process. In the thesis research the principles of the national cinema are analyzed, showing the intensive cinema spreading and film distribution network development. It also describes the activity of the Ukrainian poetic cinema school and its representatives in line with the information on the most famous films. The information on the government's attitude to the poetic cinema is provided in the thesis as well as on the reasons for its interdiction. It shows the facts of confrontation between the Soviet system and filmmakers, intellectual degree of creative freedom, and methods of punishments that were applied against dissenters. The paper studies the level of integration of Ukrainian Soviet cinema into the world cinematographic process.
