Skyba I. Instrumental knowledge in the context of social activities in the information society

The thesis deals with instrumental knowledge in the context of social activity in the information age. This paper analyzes the process of formation of instrumental knowledge, the main tendencies of its development, the role of society's being in the context of value guidelines of culture in a particular historical era. The conceptual-categorical apparatus is clarified and methodological framework of the study is defined. Socio-cultural content of instrumental knowledge is disclosed by regarding its innovative and praxeological functions. In the paper mechanisms of implementation of instrumental knowledge in socio-cultural activities and the place of instrumental knowledge in science and technology of society has been shown. The specific character of instrumental knowledge in society informatization process has been determined. It has been substantiated that socio-cultural role of instrumental knowledge is manifested in the fullest extent only under the conditions of the informatization of society and in the implementation of information and communication technologies that permeate all social practices. The possibilities of instrumental knowledge to solve problems of the information society, and its application to the field of education in particular are outlined. It is shown that in the information society, unlike industrial, there formed the need to obtain not the objective knowledge (through the availability of information), but instrumental knowledge.
