The thesis reveals genesis of the theory and practice compassion formation of the school-age children in Ukraine in the second half of the XX - the beginning of the XXI century in order to determine the prospects for the implementation of positive native and foreign experience in the modern education system. The historiography and the resource base of the study are characterized. The methodological approaches to the chosen problem are considered and terminological apparatus of the research is revealed. The stages and peculiarities of compassion formation in children of school age in Ukraine in the second half of the XX - at the beginning of the XXI century are determined. The opportunities for implementation of positive native and foreign experience of compassion formation in modern educational practice in Ukraine by means of developing predictive strategy of training teachers to the formation of students' compassion and relevant practical recommendations at the national and regional levels are found out.
