Essay

Object: political and legal status of Transnistria Governorate as a temporary occupation zone of the Romanian kingdom during the Second World War. Objective: to clarify the Romanian government's policy towards ethnic groups in Transnistria in the social, economic, cultural and educational spheres. Methods: static, dynamic, description, classification, typology, historical and genetic, problem-chronological, comparative, biographical. The main perspectives of the Romanian ethnic politics in this region are determined on the base of archival sources and historiography. Author researches ideological aspects and realization of mono-ethnic Romanian state-building. The migration processes and mechanisms occurring in Transnistria which were a continuation of government policy are analyzed. They touched upon some ethnic groups: deportation processes for Jews and Roma and repatriation for Moldovans. Attitude of the Romanian Government to the ethnic groups of the region which were "privileged" (Moldavans and volksdeutsche) and "underprivileged" (Ukrainians, Russians, Poles) are characterized. Demographic consequences of Romanian regime are defined.
