Riabukhin K. Combined therapy of alcohol dependence in women based on their gender status

We observed 281 female alcoholism patients between the ages of 26 to 68 years. As a comparison group there were examined 42 men of the same age who also suffer from alcohol dependence. The study took place in several stages: screening test and identify their alcohol dependence, identifying of gender-specific alcohol motivation and socio-demographic variables, stage of defining types of women suffering from alcohol dependence and stage of pharmacotherapy of alcohol dependence and evaluate its effectiveness. These disorders of mental and emotional state, disharmonious personal characteristics, socio-psychological disorders and maladaptive behavioral traits of women which have become targets for pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy. The pharmacological assistance was divided into several phases: relief of alcoholic psychosis; detoxification, leveling of withdrawal symptoms, compensation of somatic symptoms of formation the aversion to alcohol; correction of negative symptoms and restore the previous state of functioning with carrying out the prevention of relapse. The basic principles and steps of fixed short-term motivational therapy of women suffering from alcohol dependence, were based on the basis of behavioral therapy in accordance with the character traits of patients. Assessment of efficacy of provided pharmacotherapeutic and psychotherapeutic complex allows to state the positive changes that have occurred on the clinical, motivational, psycho-emotional, social and psychological levels.
