Yelesin P. Rural clergy as environment of Ukrainian intelligentsia (the second part of 19th - the beginning of the 20th century)

Basing on integrated analysis of diverse sources (a considerable part of which are previously unknown in the broad scientific circles archival documents) and literature an author of dissertation made the attempt to comprehensively investigate the intelligent initiatives of prominent representatives of the Ukrainian Orthodox rural clergy in the second part of 19th - the beginning of the 20th centuries, as well as to look at the environment of parish clergy, as such social sphere, in which national intelligentsia of the modern period originated. In order to establish the factors that were decisive for the clerics at their choosing of intelligent direction in social work author analyzes specific of professional socialization of religious families' natives in rural areas, taking into account the traditional restraint of clergy as a social sphere in the middle of 19th century. Also identified the most common scenarios and ways of professional choices of children of priests after the adoption the law in 1869.
