Essay

The thesis deals with the artistic originality of the folk decorative arts in the Opillia and Boiki Pidgirya territories of the late 19th - 20 th cent. as an understudied component of the folk art of Ukraine. There have been found out the development and fading traditions pattern of the ethnic art, the causal relationships and mutual interference have been traced, that have affected the artistic features of the works in the Opillia and Boiki Pidgirya territories.There has been conducted a typological analysis of the weaving works, embroidery, folk dress, pottery, woodworking arts, stone cutting, metal art, weaving with natural materials, Easter egg decorating, paper cutting art, the traditional forms, decor and local artistic features have been determined. It has been established that the local production technology of the essential tools of the trade and household items have been improved here for centuries, that were embodied in measure, harmony and expediency. The components of folk dress have been analyzed in terms of socio-economic factors, geographical and climatic conditions, worldviews and the nature of business activities, the components of dress have been classified by sex, age and property features and by the way they are worn. The significant attention has been paid to the technological and aesthetic moments of the formation of the folk dress sets in the given territories. The pottery as the most ancient and widespread craft has been analyzed regarding its origin, formation and development. The technological, artistic and compositional principles of the pottery, its artistic originality have been determined. The technological and aesthetic principles of the wood products have been analyzed, the evolution of the form modification, decoration and functionality of the products have been retraced. The significant attention has been paid to the cooperage, that is typical in the given territories. In researching of the stone cutting craft the great attention was given to the definition of the composite schemes and features of the plastic at the gravestones monuments as the most common in this type of works, it was pointed to their specific features, depending on the production centres. The significant characteristic was given to the alabaster craft, its centers were determined and it was made the art review of the works. The technological, artistic and compositional principles of the weaving products and their artistic originality have been analyzed, the shape and design features of each typological group have also been analyzed with the characteristics of their domestic use. There were explored the characteristic types of crafts in the investigated areas such as metal craft, specifically the bell casting, found in the early nineteenth century, namely in 1808 by Felchynski brothers in Kalush, Ivano-Frankivsk region, that have the special shape, original decorations and inscriptions, the artistic features of the Easter egg decorating, that were displayed in symbolism and decor showing the typical local differences and the paper cutting art, that appeared in the Opillia and Pidgirya territories late nineteenth century as a result of changes in the village culture, as a desire of people for beauty, that appeared in an accessible form of art.
