Essay

Based on published, little known and archival sources, the dissertation provides a systemic and complex analysis of I.F.Teslenko's (1908-1994) pedagogical heritage and scientific methodological work in the area of teaching school mathematics. Based on the study of the gathered sources, a scientific biography of I. F. Teslenko has been written. The main two periods in his scientific and pedagogical work are determined and characterized. The author analyzes I. F. Teslenko's general pedagogical views of school mathematics education - developmental and educational potential of school geometry, importance of conscious mastering of mathematical knowledge. The scholar's contribution is determined in the context of modernization of school mathematics education during 1960-1994. I. F. Teslenko's scientific innovations in the introduction of elective courses in mathematics are identified and characterized. The author describes the scholar's theoretical and methodological research in the area of introduction of programmed learning. The paper reveals the importance of I. F. Teslenko's work on the introduction of a new subject "Foundations of Information Science and Computer Technology" into the content of school mathematics education. 7452
