Shkabko S. Sociopolitical and state activity of Leonid Kuchma (1975 - 2005)

The basic principles of economic policy during Kuchma's presidency has been established. The first presidential cadence accompanied by economic recession and deep crisis. It was managed to restore the growth in all sectors of the economy as a result of reforms and stabilization during the second term. President Kuchma's main achievement is the introduction of the national currency - hryvnia. The main achievements and flaws during the process of transformation program implementation has been analyzed. The role of Leonid Kuchma in the constitutional process in Ukraine and his position concerning important issues of state administration have been investigated. It was established that the Constitution of Ukraine was adopted in 1996 due to the active position of the President of Ukraine. The constitutional reform in 2004 had been the result of a compromise between the head of state and the opposition, which had led to Ukraine's transition to a parliamentary-presidential form of government.
