The dissertation is the first comprehensive study of the history and development of print publications of Bulgarian national minority in the independent Ukraine. It is the first study in Ukrainian scientific discourse. A number of newspapers and magazines that are little-known or unknown in the national journalism studies have been introduced into scientific circulation. They were published in Zaporizhzhia and Odesa regions (and in the Crimea). The thesis has traced the conditions of origin and publishing stages of Bulgarian minority periodicals. The press content used on different functioning stages of social and political development of the region has been analyzed. The role of Bulgarian minority periodicals in nation-building and strengthening of Ukrainian public awareness has been clarified. Principles of the language policy used by the editorial offices of Bulgarian editions have been found. Development trends of ethnic press have been examined on the examples of the Bulgarian minority periodicals.
