The thesis is based on a wide array of source materials of Ukrainian and Polish descent and highlights the theme of the social and political life of Ukrainians in Chelm and Podlasie regions in the 1918-1939 biennium. It was analyzed the main reasons for the consolidation of Ukrainians of Chelm and Podlasie in the struggle for their national rights in the 1918-1922 biennium. This includs the transformation of Ukrainian ethnic communities due to changes caused by the First World War,in the national minority; deteriorating of socio-economic situation; difficulties in adapting immigrants; the growth of religious oppression, like "religious revindication" action in 1919. It reveals the feature of Ukrainian political thought of Chelm and Podlasie in 1918-1922, which complied with federal-autonomic views. It was found that during the 1922-1930 biennium, Ukrainian political forces in the Sejm and Senate conducted a systematic and purposeful work to fulfill their election promises and trying to obtain extensive rights (including cultural, educational, economic and political) for the Ukrainian minorityfrom the Polish authorities. There is a conclusion about the inevitability of losing the political weight on the national level of the leaders of Chelm and Podlasie in 1930-1939's. The first consequence of it was the failure ofthe elections to the Sejm and the Senate in 1930.
