Essay

The research is focused at the social role of the community as an important factor of social transformation. The analysis of theoretical and methodological research foundations of the community as a complex and multidimensional phenomenon and the network of human interactions in terms of its philosophical content has been made. The essence of the community was found, as a special form of social self-organization, the basic institution of the Ukrainian society, ensuring its self-sufficiency and integrity in the process of historical evolution. It is proved that Ukrainian understanding of the community, compared with Western and Russian philosophical thought, differs because of the special status of the community as a worldview category. If the philosophy of the West makes an analysis of society and community as something independent, the Ukrainian philosophy looks at it as at as elements of the whole, a special kind of human entity, the unity of form and content of human lives. It is emphasized organizational and rational value of community in the accumulation of social capital and creating of an enabling environment for effective social transformation at the local level through self-organization and social revitalization of citizens.
