In the dissertation we investigated the problem of formation of scientific-research competence of future programmer-engineers within educational environment of university. The notion of "research competence of future engineers-programmers", its structure and content was updated and expanded. It was proven that scientific-research competence of future programmer-engineers is a dynamic personal characteristic of students that reflects the desire and ability to implement the knowledge, skills, experience and personal qualities to realize the research work in software engineering, and represents a combination of motivation and cognitive values; integrative professional and methodological knowledge; multi-functional scientific-research skills and reflection.
