Volynets V. Horses leptospirosis in Ukraine (etiological structure, diagnostics and specific prophylaxis)

The etiological role in the leptospirosis of horses was determined (Australis –13,7 %, Icterohaemorrhagiae – 10,8 %, Canicola – 5,6 %, Grippotyphosa – 4,0 %, Tarassovi – 3,6 %, Pomona – 1,9 %, Sejroe – 1,1 %, Hebdomadis – 1,0 %.) Antibodies to several serogroups of leptospira are found in blood serum of 58,3 % infected horses. We have developed the technology of producing an inactive vaccine against horse leptospirosis. The optimum immunizing dose of vaccine against horse leptospirosis was determined as 5 cm3, that provides a high average antibody titer, which on the 14th day after vaccination is 1: 244 ± 25,08 and increases to 21 days to 1: 400 ± 63,54. The economic expediency of using the formulated vaccine was proved for horse leptospirosis prevention.
