Essay

Object: Mykola Holubets way of life, his social and professional activities, scientific heritage in the context of the major milestones in the Ukrainian national history of first half of XX century. Objective: complex study and reconstruction of life and work of M. Holubets in the context of socio-political and cultural processes in Galicia in the first half of XX century, clarify the priority directions of his scientific work, evaluation of the place and role of the scientist in the history of Ukrainian science. Methods: historical and genetics, problem-chronological, biographical and comparative-historical, analysis, synthesis, analogy, deduction and induction. Results: for the first time with involving of new sources course of life of M. Holubets is reconstructed, social and political conditions of the his world views formation are revealed, comprehensive information on the family environment scientist and his family fate is collected, generalized information about the activities of M. Holubets during the First World War, particularly in the Legion of the Ukrainian Sich Riflemen and in concentration camp Freistadt among Ukrainian prisoners, analyzed M. Holubets activities in social, artistic, scientific organizations in Lviv for interwar period, systematized information about publishing and editorial work of M. Holubets, researched the basic directions of scientific activity of scientist and analyzed his works on history, local history, Lviv history, history of Ukrainian art and prosopography. Scope of application: for writing of papers on the history of Ukraine, Ukrainian historiography, prosopographical, Lviv history and local history books, encyclopaedias and reference books, in the practical teaching and local history work.
