The object of research is art education in Ukraine in the second half of the XIX - early XX century; the subject of the study is the peculiarities of the development of private art education in Ukraine during the period under study; the aim of the research is to reveal and reveal the peculiarities of the development of private art education of Ukraine in the second half of the XIX - beginning of the 20th century on the basis of historical and pedagogical analysis; methods of research - specific-search, logical-historical analysis, constructive-genetic, comparative-comparative, historical-retrospective; scientific novelty of the results - the theoretical generalization of the important and urgent task is revealed - the revealing and revealing of the peculiarities of the development of private art education of Ukraine in the second half of the XIX - the beginning of the twentieth century (the development of private art education in different regions of Ukraine (South of Ukraine, Ekaterinoslav, Cherkasy region) and the functioning of private art schools in Ukraine (Kharkov Art School M. Rayevsky-Ivanova, Private Drawing School in Odessa, Kiev Drawing School N. Murashko, private art and craft training workshop A. Dolgova in Yekaterinoslav). The periodization of the development of private art education in Ukraine in the second half of the XIX - beginning XX century in three stages: 1861 - 1885, 1886 - 1895, 1896 - 1917 years.
