Polyezhayev Y. Travel magazines in Ukraine: structural and functional peculiarities, topical and genre characteristics

The thesis is the first attempt to research the functions, structural peculiarities and genre characteristics of the Ukrainian travel magazines. The author defines three major approaches in analyzing travel journalism in contemporary media studies. The first is focused on theoretical and methodological aspects of travel journalism; the second is devoted to its historical issues and the third is related with the peculiar features of the phenomenon as a heterogeneous kind of journalism. The genre paradigm of non-fiction travel literature (travelogue) is proved to be antecedent for the travel journalism. Travelogue exists in two main forms: religious travelogue and secular travelogue. The genre formats of travel journalism, which is genetically rooted in secular travelogue, are modified in accordance with the essential nature of press and the principles of its circulation.
