Essay

In the dissertation, Ukrainian dissident movement representative, historian and publicist Valentyn Moroz's social, political and scientific activities are observed. The work is based on different, for the first time investigated historical sources found in state archives, repositories of the Security Service of Ukraine, collections of museums. Works of foreign and Ukrainian historians, modern methodological paradigms, principles and methods helped avoid subjective assessments, provide scientific validity of the study and completely effect the goal and objectives.The author outlines historical conditions that determined the development of V. Moroz's philosophical orientations, the most significant there were upbringing in nationally conscious family, fight of OUN and UIA for the independence of Ukraine, forced Sovietization of Volyn in the second half of the 1940s. There are described the main stages of public dissident activity of V. Moroz during his life within 1964-1979. The researcher observes V. Moroz's participation in Lutsk and Ivano-Frankivsk informal dissident groups in the mid 1960's, samizdat spread, promotion ideas of Ukrainian nationalism among the intelligentsia. The first attempt of the Soviet regime to blame Valentyn Moroz in a case is analyzed. Antiregime activities of the dissident during his stay in Mordovia colonies, Vladimir prison and Kiev solitary confinement cell of KDB in 1966-1969 years are depicted. It is established that the main dissident's methods of struggle against the regime during the first imprisonment there were spread of manuscripts of anti-Soviet character and the writing of applications to Soviet authorities on human rights violations in the camps. His essay "Report from the Beria's Reserve" and unsuccessful attempt to punish the publicist by to taking criminal proceedings against him are characterized.
