Essay

Object: Establishment of patterns of variability, inheritance, adaptive capacity, stability, correlation, genetic dispersion, combining ability and heritability of quantitative traits, determination, on this basis, of breeding value of cultivar traits and creation of valuable starting material for bread winter wheat breeding. Objective: Evaluation of breeding value of bread winter wheat cultivars in terms of valuable economic features by establishing patterns of their variability, inheritance, heritability, adaptive capacity and stability, relationships, combining ability and genetic variation of quantitative traits, and selection and creation, on this basis, of starting material for breeding. Methods: general scientific, field, biometric, measuring and weighing, technological, genetic-statistical, genetic, breeding. Novelty: For the first time in the Eastern Forest-Steppe of Ukraine, an important scientific task on evaluating the comparative breeding value of bread winter wheat cultivars by a set of traits in top cross and diallel cross designs, selecting and creating valuable starting material for breeding on this basis. Peculiarities of relationships between eight quantitative traits were established by unequal levels of the multiple correlation (R) and determination (D) coefficients between each of the traits and the cumulative effect of two other ones. The breeding-genetic features of cultivars as staring material for combination breeding were determined by inheritance, combining ability, components of genetic variation and heritability. The effectiveness of selecting cultivars - sources of valuable traits as starting material for breeding with recombination of desirable traits was assessed. Results: The cultivars - sources of a set of high levels of valuable breeding traits such as 'Kharus', 'Analoh', 'Yuviliar Myronovskyi', 'Doridna', 'Alians', 'Hordovyta', 'Yunona', 'Bohemia' and 'Bogatka' are recommended to use in the combination breeding of bread winter wheat. The adaptive ones ('Analoh', 'Yuviliar Myronovskyi' and 'Kharus') - under uncontrolled conditions; 'Bunchuk', 'Bogatka' and 'Doridna' - under the most optimal controlled conditions. Their combinations are also recommended to use in crossing. Degree of Implementation: Twenty five the most valuable lines of bread winter wheat were used in breeding by the Plant Production Institute named after VYa Yuriev. Scope of Implementation: scientific institutions of NAAS and the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, higher educational establishments, agrarian enterprises of Ukraine.
