Essay

In the thesis it is considered the problem of the involvement of young Ukrainians in various precarious social practices. In particular, the author describes in detail the etymological origin and distribution in the scientific discourse of the terms «precariat», «precariousness», «precarization»; the peculiarities of the spreading of the precarious social practices in the modern Ukrainian transformational society; features of the distribution of the precarious life strategies in the Ukrainian social practices, as well as possible ways to minimize the impact of such strategies against the background of domestic social transformations. The author suggests a conceptual model of the selective collapse of Ukrainian social transformations, which acts as a catalyzing factor of the action of the precariousness in the social space of Ukraine. The author considers the selector collapse in the context of the existence of norms (including social and labor standards) which are antagonistic in their nature and enter into a latent and at times even an obvious conflict between themselves and thus cause a state when the individual in the social system remains alone with a situation of uncertainty and unaccountable risks. Inturn, it is the situation of non-calculable risks that gives rise to the prevalence of the precarious life strategies in the life of the individual. The author proposes a three-level system for the deployment of the precarious life strategies in the modern society, which includes personal, civil and national levels. The allocation of three levels of the deployment of precariousness is due to the spreading of the atomization of the individual in relation to the long-term life strategies in the context of individual life and the life of the family, the interaction with equivalent social actors and interaction with the institutions of statepower. The institution of higher education is considered as a special buffer transition of the individual from the situation of relative certainty to the precarious social practices or to the successful minimization of their action in the process of professional self-determination.
