Essay

For the first time the thesis found the features and trends of development which based on a retrospective analysis of content, forms and methods of art education in primary and secondary schools of Kherson province in the late ХІХth - early ХХth century. On a base of the analysis of the main thesis of methodological approaches (cultural, multicultural, and axiological) the author's definition of a regional art education is formulated as training process through the development of national art and educational traditions, openness to adapting foreign art experience in a specific area of the state that has a historical and administrative character of formation. Determines the essence of functions of the regional art education (motivational and educational, cultural, communicative, creative and motivating, hedonistic).
