Essay

The thesis is dedicated to the historical-comparative analysis of higher pedagogical education in Italy during the late 20th - the early 21st century. In the thesis, political, socioeconomic and cultural preconditions for the development of higher pedagogical education in Italy and its legislative base have been studied. The historical traditions of Italian education have been highlighted. The study of certain authentic materials has allowed to reveal the content and the main directions in the state regulation of teacher training, to analyze the provision of teacher training in education institutions, to justify the main content of pedagogical education, teacher advanced training and teacher status. The first section called "Theoretical Foundations of Research on Tendencies in Development of Higher Pedagogical Education in Italy" reveals the dynamics of forming and historical development of the system of higher and pedagogical education in Italy. It has been noted that the nationwide system of teacher training has witnessed several epochs and periods before being approved in the current system. Political, socioeconomic and legal foundations of Italian education development have been tracked. The trends that were popular throughout the long history of higher pedagogical education in Italy have been revealed. In the section, terminological apparatus of the thesis and the level of available knowledge of the problem of higher pedagogical education in Italy have been analyzed. It has been concluded that the mentioned subject has not been studied yet. The second section called "The Peculiarities of Tendencies in Development of Higher Pedagogical Education in Italy (1988-2015)" presents findings on conceptual foundations of higher pedagogical education functioning, reveals trends in development of higher education in general and pedagogical education in particular, analyzes the legislative base, education reforms and various innovations, predicts further trends in development of higher education in Italy. It has been established that Italy being the initiator of the Bologna process is distinguished by its own original system of teacher training based on one-year pedagogical courses and higher education completion. According to the current system, after completing the professional training course future teachers are registered in the regional "List" of teachers certified by the Ministry, who have obtained the right to enter into labour agreements for a certain period of time. The third section called "The Historical-Comparative Analysis of Higher Pedagogical Education Development in Italy and Ukraine" justifies trends in development of higher pedagogical education in Ukraine, as well as approaches to solving the most important theoretical problems of pedagogical education and upbringing. In addition, modern trends in development of higher pedagogical education in Italy and Ukraine have been comparatively analyzed. The programmes of university courses on primary school teachers' training and thematic orientations of specialized pedagogical journals in both countries have been studied. The main results, provisions and conclusions of the research may be used by researchers, teachers and students of higher education institutions, within the framework of courses on the history of pedagogy, pedagogical comparativistics and higher education pedagogy, as well as while preparing monographs, textbooks and manuals.
