Popovych O. OUN and UPA in the memory policy and consciousness of the Ukrainian population (2005–2014)

Object: the process of forming the policy of memory and functioning of the consciousness of the population in modern Ukraine regarding the activities of the OUN and the UPA. Purpose: to analyze the functioning of the policy of memory and consciousness of the population about the activities of the OUN and the UPA in the middle of XX century. Methods: general scientific and special historical methods, interdisciplinary approach. Results: For the first time the influence of the authorities on the formation of a policy of memory on the Ukrainian liberation movement in the middle of XX century was analyzed, the influence of the image of the OUN (Bandera and Melnyk) and the UPA in educational literature on the ordinary citizen of Ukraine was identified, the place and role of the mass media in the context of forming an objective image of the OUN figures and UPA soldiers among the population of different regions of the state, conceptual approaches to the interpretation of the concepts of "memory policy", "historical memory" and "national memory" have been improved. Scope of use: for writing synthetic monographs on the modern history of Ukraine, for the preparation of university textbooks and teaching aids, teaching special courses, for developing a state policy on the implementation of a historical narrative about the Ukrainian liberation movement of the mid-twentieth century among the population of Ukraine and foreign countries.
