The author of the dissertation has presented theoretical generalization and a new solution to a scientific problem - the definition of the essence, peculiarities and types of conflicts of interest in the professional activities of a lawyer and the ways to improve their avoidance. According to the results of the conducted study the author has formulated a number of new scientific conclusions and practical propositions and recommendations aimed at achieving this task. The formation and development of advocacy in Ukraine has been characterized. The tasks and functions of professional activity of a lawyer in Ukraine have been determined. The principles of professional activity of a lawyer in Ukraine have been revealed. The significance of avoiding a conflict of interest as one of the most important principles of the professional activity of a lawyer has been outlined. The problems of legal regulation of avoiding a conflict of interest within the professional activity of a lawyer have been revealed. The types of conflicts of interest within the professional activity of a lawyer have been determined. The US experience in legal regulation of avoiding a conflict of interest within advocacy. The author has offered the directions of improving the avoidance of conflict of interest within lawyer's professional activity.
