The thesis analyzes the influence of psychological training on competitive activity of highly qualified yachtsmen. The paper discloses the role of psychological characteristics and personal traits of yachtsmen included in the Olympic team of Ukraine in competitive activities and identifies their personal psychological characteristics for further correction. A confirmatory experiment was conducted. The experiment reveals the level of psychological preparedness of yachtsmen of the Olympic team of Ukraine in sailing is consistent with the level of highly skilled athletes. Such research has also revealed some problematic parameters in the preparation of athletes. The need for additional work on psychological training with the athletes of the national team has been revealed. To improve the psychological preparedness of the yachtsmen of the national team of Ukraine the author's program of personal self-regulation of highly qualified yachtsmen has been created. It comprises six stages (diagnostic, developing, regulatory, diagnostic-regulatory, corrective, reflexive), covering the annual training cycle for highly qualified yachtsmen . The stages were divided into three periods of an anual cycle: preparatory, competitive and transitional. A special feature of the program is the application of a mental training for sailing. It was designed by taking into account the specifics of the sport. The training was introduced into the preparing process of the Ukrainian Olympic team in sailing. The monitoring of mental states is also usedb(at the beginning of each competitive day). Due to the monitoring of the athletes had the opportunity to visualize their own mental states each competitive days. Visualization of states showed the needs for changes in the positions of mental training. The method of gas-discharge visualization (GDV) - the program "Sport-qualification" was used in the work. The program has a table of expert-diagnostic conclusions. The use of the GDV method has allowed to determine the formation f five qualities of sports activity: purposefulness, confidence, stress resistance, self-regulation and track the desirable lack of disadaptation state and dinosahnic changes. A psycho-pedagogical experiment was conducted. It confirms the implementive effectiveness of the proposed program in the training process and competitive activities of Ukrainian sailing team. The developed program makes it possible to adjust the problem parameters in the mental activity of high-skilled yachtsmen and contributes to the improvement of their psychological preparedness.
