The dissertation focuses on the problems of foundation, functioning and development of the Soviet model of higher medical education in Ukraine in 1920-1930s. The thesis covers historiography of the topic, analysis of the scholarly approaches, sources of argumentation, description of the applied general scientific and specific historical principles and methods of the research. The paper sheds light on the introduction of the Soviet model of higher medical education in Ukraine in 1920-1930s, reveals the essence of party and class attitude towards the students' contingent formation as well as the teachers' and technical staff. The process of medical professionals training, students' practical instruction, their participation in scholarly research are centered around. There are profound illustrations of social, political and cultural activities, functioning of party and trade union organizations in medical institutions of higher education. The paper examines ideological and political work with the students' youth and socialist competition. The author presents evidence for students' clubs, voluntary, cultural and mass activity. There are insights into such rarely explored issues as processes of Ukrainization in the higher medical education, anti-Soviet ideas among the students, repressions against the teaching staff and the students.
