Kravchuk O. Fluid filtration under variable velocity of flow

Thesis work is dedicated to the actual problem of an increase in the effectiveness of rapid sand filters operation with granular medium. The results of theoretical and experimental research of main filtration process characteristics of rapid sand filters with granular medium under the velocity which varies over time are adduced in the paper. The three-block mathematical model of water filtration on rapid sand filters with granular medium for the case of variable velocity over time, which allows to define main characteristics of the process and filtration cycle duration analytically is presented. The series of experimental research of the rapid filters operation on a laboratory installation was conducted and the obtained results were analyzed. The method of rapid sand filters engineering calculation which functioning under variable filtration velocity over time was elaborated, examples of calculation were considered. The comparative analysis of the data, obtained in the work, with calculation data according to the existing methods was completed. The materials of the thesis work results implementation on real treatment structures calculation and designing were substantiated.
