The object of research: anti-church and anti-religious policies of Soviet power. The aim of research: comprehensive coverage of repressions against the Orthodox Church in Sumy region in the 1920s-1930s, which was carried out by the punitive agencies, party apparatus, government and government bodies, and the definition of regional characteristics of repressions. The subject of research: mechanisms, forms, scope, consequences of repressions against the Orthodox Church and clergy in Sumy region and the nature of their perception by the population in the 1920-1930s of XX century. The results of research and novelty: for the first time, scientific reconstruction of repressions against the Orthodox Church in Sumy region was carried out in the 1920s-1930s as a multidimensional phenomenon aimed, on the one hand, against the church as an institution of society, and on the other hand, against the clergy as its ministers. The number of closed and destroyed temples in the territory of Sumy region in the 1920-1930s has been estimated. The number of repressed Orthodox clergy in Sumy region in the 1920s-1930s has been established. The age, national, social and educational qualifications of the repressed have been studied. The understanding of the regional characteristics of the repressions has been further developed. The study of extra-legal methods of influencing the repressed clergy and witnesses with regard to their accusations, methods of falsifying of criminal cases have been further developed. The periods and forms of resistance to the repressions against the church in the region have been characterized. The sphere of usage: the further research of the current subject, writing of the synthesis works, manuals, reading of the high school courses on the history of Ukraine.
