The dissertation reflects the results of scientific research on the problem of preparing future geography teachers for regional studies on the basis of a competent approach.
For the first time, pedagogical conditions have been substantiated (stimulation of positive motivation for the study of ethnographic material in the disciplines of the general (fundamental) and professional (scientific-subject) training cycle and disciplines of additional specialization «Local studies and tourism work»; acquisition of knowledge, abilities (competences) of local studies and tourism work through the optimization of student group work; activization of the experience of local lore -Tourist work during educational and pedagogical practices).
The model of preparation of future teachers of geography for regional studies and tourism work is based on the principles of competency approach, consisting of several blocks and their parts (target (purpose, task), methodological-structural (approaches, principles, subjectivity of the relations of participants of local lore and tourism work, components of local lore competence, stages), content-procedural (stages, content, forms, methods, technologies), evaluative-productive (level and corresponding result).
Based on certain criteria and indicators, the levels of regional geography competence of future geography teachers are characterized: low, medium and high.
The essence of the key concepts of the research is specified, in particular: «ethnographic and tourist work» is understood as the process of formation of the future geography teachers of sustainable cognitive interest, value attitude to the study of the peculiarities of the native land, the acquisition of a set of knowledge for the implementation of practical local lore assignments (analysis of sources of local lore information, mapping the studying region, the registration of the report, the exposition of the collected ethnographic material, the fulfillment of various responsibilities in the natural conditions of the tourist campaign, etc.) in the condition a system of ordered joint activities of the teacher and student, aimed at the implementation of cognitive-research activities; «The preparation of future teachers of geography for regional studies and tourism work» is defined as a pedagogical process aimed at obtaining future geography teachers the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities in the field of regional studies and tourism, the formation of personal qualities that provide their ability to explore the features of their native land and use the collected material in the further pedagogical activity of local lore and tourism direction; «Local lore competence of future teachers of geography» is considered multifactor quality, which is the result of acquiring certain competencies and is manifested in the general ability and readiness for this kind of activity with students based on knowledge, skills; the experience of studying the peculiarities of the native land where the cognitive actions of the research character, the individual practical experience of studying the peculiarities of the native land during the hikes, trips, expeditions play a key role; value orientations, integrative indicators of the individual (style of communication, attitude towards themselves and their activities), acquired in the process of learning and self-directed successful participation in further pedagogical activity of the regional-tourism orientation.
A confirmatory experiment has been carried out, which showed the prevalence of low and average levels of local lore competence development for future geography teachers in the control and experimental groups, which was supposed to be increased by identifying and implementing the necessary pedagogical conditions.
As a result of the analysis of the results of the molding stage of the experiment, positive dynamics of the levels of formation of local lore competence of students in the experimental group has been proved. Thus, 104 (44,9%) students showed a high level after the forming stage stage of the experiment, compared with 28 (12,2%) individuals before the forming stage stage; the average level is 82 (35,3%) and 101 (43,5%); low ‒ respectively 46 (19,8%) after and 103 (44,2%) to the forming experiment.
The results of the research indicate a dynamic positive changes in the indicators of the preparation of future geography teachers for regional studies and tourism based on the competency approach of experimental groups under the influence of the proposed experimental innovations.
