Essay

The dissertation is devoted to solving the whole range of the contradictions that exist in the modern theory and practice of the adolescents’ Christian upbringing. The first contradiction is seen between the accumulated pedagogically valuable experience of the teenagers’ Christian upbringing in Kyivan Rus from the late of the 10-th century to the middle of the 13-th century and the absence of its generalization to be used in the modern upbringing process. The second contradiction is between the numerous research developments, concerning the teenagers’ Christian upbringing in the family and at school and their ignoring in the adolescents’ Christian upbringing practice. The third contradiction is between the adolescents’ souls’ demands and the partial use of the Christian values to achieve the aims the adolescents’ Christian upbringing. When analyzing the contents of the modern adolescents’ Christian upbringing, we came to the conclusion that the modern scholars have characterized the purpose, the tasks, the methodology, the forms, the means, the principles of the adolescents’ Christian upbringing partially, not offering the holistic system of the pedagogical ideas of the adolescents’ Christian upbringing. It is defined that the purpose of the adolescents’ Christian upbringing is to save their souls and to cultivate their Christian values, especially, when going to church. The tasks of the adolescents’ Christian upbringing are the eradication of the teenagers’ personal destructive entities, or (in the religious terminology) the passions; the clarification of the God’s image in the teenagers’ imagination and their preparing to the life in eternity when they are living on the earth. As for the methodology of the adolescents’ Christian upbringing, it includes making the prayers, the confession, the sermons, following the Christian educators’ examples, etc. Concerning the forms of the adolescents’ Christian upbringing, they include fasting, divine services, sacraments, pilgrimages, charity work. As for the main principles of the adolescents’ Christian upbringing, they are the Orthodox Church outlook on the personality as the God’s image and his likeness to the God as well as the principle of non-violence, love, responsibility and others. On the basis of the analysis of the historical, historical and pedagogical, scientific and pedagogical sources, it was defined that the preconditions of the adolescents’ Christian upbringing in Kyivan Rus were as follows. First, Kyivan Rus had the diplomatic relations with the states which had already adopted Christianity. Secondly, there was the exchange of the cultural achievements. Thirdly, Christianity was spread by the political leaders, preachers, missionaries on the territory of Kyivan Rus. Fourthly, there was the translation of the sacred books and the appearance of the Slavonic language. Finaly Princess Olga and Prince Volodymyr were baptized. There had been defined three stages of the cultivation and further development of the pedagogical of the adolescents’ Christian upbringing in Kyivan Rus (from the late of the 10-th century to the middle of the 13-th century).
