Essay

The purpose of the study is to provide theoretical substantiation and experimental verification of the effectiveness of social-pedagogical conditions for overcoming the negative influence of the media on the socialization of adolescents in the activities of educational institutions. Object of research – overcoming the negative influence of the media on the socialization of adolescents. Subject of research – social-pedagogical conditions for overcoming the negative influence of mass media on the socialization of adolescents. On the basis of scientific sources theoretical analysis, the features of socialization of adolescents in the conditions of the informational environment are determined, various media types are characterized, and the negative consequences of the media influence on the socialization of adolescents are indicated. Mass media is one of the most influential factors of adolescents’ socialization. The concept «negative influence of mass media on the process of socialization» is defined as the dissemination of negative information by the media, which directs adolescents to violate social connections and relations with the social environment, to bring their individual and collective behavior into conflict with generally accepted social norms and rules, and the formation of personal qualities of adolescents which will not promote active socialization in society. It is proved that consequences of mass media influence on the process of socialization of adolescents are not only positive, but also negative. The positive effects of media influence on socialization include: increasing of the level of informing of adolescents, forming of prosocial behavior, facilitating the formation of communicative skills, providing opportunities to relax from studying. Among the negative effects of the media, special attention is paid to the consequences of the impact of violence scenes in the media (changes in the perception of the surrounding world, the perception of violence by adolescents as a legitimate way of solving conflicts, copying violent patterns of behavior, the emergence of a reaction of desensitization, etc.), the consequences of the impact of advertising (advertising asserts respect for the material product as a complete substitute for the spiritual, forms in adolescents the idea that consumption and material wealth are the main goal of human life, advertising of food makes a negative impact on the health of adolescents), forming of stereotypes, the appearance of an adolescents addiction from the media, the effects of sex scenes in the media (the formation of a deformed view of interpersonal relationships, the artificial imposition of certain stereotypes of sexual behavior), creation of dangerous situations for adolescents because of their non-fulfilment of the rules of safe behavior in Internet. The negative effects of influence on the intellectual sphere researchers include: reduction of intellectual abilities in primitive problems solving; reducing the flexibility of cognitive processes; narrowing of cognitive interests circle; distraction from real life, learning, natural children's interests and responsibilities; stagnation of the psyche. The following criteria and indicators of the evaluation process of mass-media negative influence overcoming are developed: cognitive (involves mastering of the system of theoretical general scientific, social-pedagogical, psychological and pedagogical knowledge necessary for a person to analyze critically the information provided by the media), motivational-value (characterizes a set of value orientations and moral beliefs of teenagers, intentions, interests, according to which a teenager selects information sources) and practical (determines the degree of mastering of a set of skills and abilities that ensure self-regulation of interaction with media which are required for the effective socialization of adolescents). The analysis of social-pedagogical, pedagogical, and psychological sources on the issue of media influence on the individual, as well as the results of experiment, allowed us to outline the following social-pedagogical conditions: informing adolescents and their parents about negative consequences of media influence; forming of a critical attitude of adolescents to mass media; the actualization of universal values in the value system of adolescents and the development of communicative skills of adolescents. Under the social-pedagogical conditions of overcoming mass media negative influence on the process of adolescent’s socialization, we mean a set of interrelated and purposefully organized circumstances and factors that create a social environment that minimizes the negative impact of media on the adolescents' personality and contributes to the improvement of their socialization process.
