Essay

Kyiv province nobility philanthropic activity in the beginning of the 20th century was explored in the dissertation. Financial support of religious, educational institutions and participation in the work of state and public charity societies characterized Kiev nobility before the outbreak of World War І. Kiev province nobility took an active part in charity activities in favor of the military during the First World War. The forms of philanthropy of the nobles were diverse: donations to the needs of the military and victims of the war during one-day gatherings, donations to charitable organizations, deductions from wages, collection of gifts for soldiers, participation in the work of public and state charity organizations, and the financing of private hospitals. A bright example served the charity of the nobles of the Kiev province, who made significant contributions to the needs of war victims: Countess M. Branitskaya, E. Tolstaya, Princess M. Svyatopolk-Mirskaya, O. Demidova San Donato, Count F. Sobansky, J. Shembek, M. Ignatiev, F. Bezak.
