The dissertation thoroughly analyzes the activity of Lonhyn Tsehelskyi, a wellknown Ukrainian public-political and state figure. The works of Ukrainian and foreign historians are systematically rethinking, the state and degree of scientific development of the mentioned problem are clarified, the additional source basis of this topic is established, the methodology and methodic of the further direction of the problem are determined. The formation of a worldview and personality of L. Tsehelskyi is investigated. The emphasis is on the little-known pages of his biography. It was found out that the defining periods, which especially influenced the process of forming the personality of L. Tsehelskyi and his subsequent life position, were childhood and adolescence, first of all, the family environment and upbringing. The personality of Lonhyn Tsehelskyi as a politician and public figure in the last period of the existence of the Austro-Hungarian Empire is considered. His participation in the students' movement and the first steps in his political career are characterized. As chairman of the «Academichna Hromada» L. Tsehelskyi was marked by a leader's initiative and organizational skills. It is noted that at the beginning of the twenty century L. Tsehelskyi, to a certain extent departed from activity in student organizations, actively participated in the work of political and public associations. The dissertation also highlights the socio-political, scientific and cultural activities of Lonhyn Tsehelskyi in emigration to the United States. The scientist's outlooks and his contribution to the development of the scientific and public-political life of the Ukrainian community in emigration and the establishment of UkrainianAmerican relations are analyzed.
