The thesis describes a life path, scientific and educational activities of Yu. Vynohrads’kyi (1873–1965), based on the variety of written, material, pictorial sources, a large part of which has been introduced for the first time in scientific circulation, as well as oral testimonies. The basic stages of the researcher’s life path are determined, the fates of his family members are investigated. The main factors that contributed to the formation of Yu. Vynohrads’kyi’s interest to local history are defined. His activities towards preservation of historical objects are stressed. The contribution of the researcher to the formation of the museum network in Chernihiv region and the activities aimed to the organization and functioning of the Sosnytsia historical-archaeological and ethnographic museum (now Sosnytsia museum of local history named after Yu. Vynohrads’kyi) are presented. The importance of Yu. Vynohrads’kyi's scientific and educational activity in the context of development of local history movement has been emphasized. Yu. Vynohrads’kyi’s studios reflect his active research. He prepared a large number of works – both small research articles and general scientific studies devoted to various aspects of Chernihiv region’s local history. The main directions of Yu. Vynohrads’kyi’s studios are distinguished: history, archeology, toponymy, ethnography, linguistics and natural science. Description of his works on each of them is given. The complexity and versatility of the research are noted. Key words: Yu.
