Essay

Thesis provides complex research on studying Latin script and its graphical peculiarities in city chancelleries of Rus voivodship in XVI-XVII centuries. Documents in Latin as well as in Polish where Latin graphics is basic have been taken into consideration. The graphics of script from books dated 1525-1699 kept in the chancelleries of Galicia, Lviv, Przemysl, Sanok lands situated within Rus voivodship have been analyzed. In the first half of XVI century Gothic and Humanistic cursive was mostly used while in the second half of XVI century Polish post Gothic cursive and italics with post Gothic influence was commonly in use. In the first half of XVI century Baroque kantselyareska with details of post Gothic cursive became typical and in the second half of XVI century Baroque bastarda was more popular. Concerning city secretary school, which influenced the script of city chancelleries of Rus voivodship in XVI century and the first third of XVII that was Krakow school based on city chancellery the city secretaries of which implemented the ways of writing taught in leading Polish Krakow University. Starting with the second half of XVII century, in about 1640s, city secretaries of Rus voivodship changed their focus on Lviv City chancellery from which they took the samples of script.
