Essay

The thesis generalizes main tendencies and features of theory and practice of teachers’ post-graduate education. It was found out that historical education is one of the key factors of forming of people’s national historical consciousness. It is emphasized on the important role of pedagogical influence of history teachers in forming of pupils’ historical consciousness, whose professional activity is connected with humanization of studying, forming of students’ values, expansion of their interests and outlook. It has been proved that the professional image of a history teacher contributes to a certain extent to historical education and connected with a great deal of self-work. Individuality and personal charisma of a history teacher, the development of his/her personality, general and professional culture, becomes the value of pedagogical education and forms the professional image of teacher. It has been grounded basic concepts of research, namely: «professional image», «professional image of teacher», «professional image of a history teacher» and concepts relating to creating of a professional image of history teacher – «professional self-development», «professional competence», «pedagogical mastership». It was suggested the author’s interpretation of concept «professional image of a history teacher»; «professional competence of a history teacher». It was theoretically grounded and defined pedagogical conditions that assist the successful forming and development of professional image of a history teacher in postgraduate education: increase of level of professional competence of history teachers through the implementation of innovative forms and methods of training into professional informational and educational environment; planning and implementation of the activities, which are aimed at developing of the professional image of a history teacher in the system of postgraduate education; forming of skills of self-image in the process of professional development through actualization of self-development and self-improvement of a history teacher. It has been determined the basic criteria of forming of professional image of a history teacher, that are the following: motivational-and-valuable, cognitive-and-intellectual, activity-and-reflexive, personal and social-and-behavioral. According to the criteria it was founded out three levels of professional image of history teacher: low, intermediate and high. It has been worked out and theoretically grounded the structural-functional model of development of professional image of a history teacher. It has been suggested author’s methods of development of professional image for their further implementation into the process of post-graduate studying of history teachers.
