Essay

Object: images of deportations and the Polish-Ukrainian borderland in the representations of deportees from Kholmshchyna, Nadsyannya and Lemkivshchyna and related historiographical concepts, media discourses, and everyday visions of this issue by Ukrainians. Purpose: recreation of the collective image of deportations, traumatic events that preceded this process in the views of deportees and descendants, the inclusion of their experience in the historical memory of Ukraine; studying the relationship between the different levels of identity, the gender characteristics of the memory of the deportees. Methods: structural-functional, comparative, analysis and synthesis, problem-chronological, retrospective, historical-genetic, anthropological, narrative, content analysis. Results: for the first time, the problem of population displacement in the context of the so-called "Polish question", in particular in the policy of the USSR, Great Britain and the USA, the Polish emigration government, has been analyzed in a complex way; the implementation of the concept of transfer (displacement of population) in European policy and international law of the first half of the 20th century was traced; the main psycho-emotional, gender features of the representations of traumatic experience of ethnopolitical conflict, war and resettlement are highlighted; the coverage of deportation events in the press of Ukraine and Poland, visual representations in Ukrainian documentaries was reconstructed; the analysis of the course of the process of deportation and further adaptation of the material-household and psycho-social levels; approaches to the study of the historical memory of the deportees; methods of generalization of traumatic experience, its influence on creation of the image of a small homeland by deportees, their plural identity; ways to explore the concept of a cultural trauma of the community of deportees and post-memories of the descendants have been improved. The scope of use: in the development of practical manuals for a wide range of specialists involved in the study of traumatic experiences, during the development of textbooks on the history of Ukraine and generalizing works on the regional historical memory of Ukraine.
