Essay

In the thesis, on the basis of theoretical substantiation of the research problem, the tendencies of the pre-university training of secondary comprehensive school leavers at higher educational institutions of Ukraine in the second half of the 20th century are determined and revealed; the prospects for the development of pre-university training in the practice of modern higher pedagogical school are outlined. The preconditions and factors of the formation and development of pre-university training at higher pedagogical institutions of Ukraine are identified. The periodisation of the pre-university training of secondary comprehensive school leavers at higher pedagogical institutions of Ukraine in the second half of the 20th century in the unity of the four stages is substantiated. Personnel support, forms, methods and means of the pre-university training of secondary comprehensive school leavers at higher pedagogical institutions of Ukraine of the studied period are characterized. It is found out that the prospective improvement of the pre-university training in modern Ukraine is: updating and modernising the pre-university training, in particular, through applying the author’s program «Author’s Model of Centre of Pre-university Training of Higher Pedagogical Educational Institution», aimed at providing qualitative training on subjects of independent assessment of knowledge, psychological adaptation of future university entrants, promoting education in general and popularising scientific achievements in particular, raising the educational level of young people and developing their creative potential, supporting gifted young people and assisting in their further education; intensifying the computer training of secondary comprehensive school-leavers at pre-university training departments; promoting the introduction of the best pedagogical experience in the pre-university training process; using widely master classes and speciality courses, etc. The essence of the key concepts of the research (pre-university education, pre-university training, readiness to choose a teacher’s profession, cognitive independence of secondary comprehensive school leavers in the pre-university education system) is specified; the theoretical and practical achievements of scholars and pedagogues concerning the development of pre-university training of secondary comprehensive school leavers at higher pedagogical institutions of Ukraine are generalised.
