Essay

In the thesis the peculiarities of women’s gymnasium education development in the North-East of Ukraine in the second half of the ХІХ – at the beginning of the XX century as historical-pedagogical phenomenon are studied. It has been found out that the problem of women’s gymnasium education development in the North-East of Ukraine in the second half of the ХІХ – at the beginning of the XX century was not the subject of a holistic historical-pedagogical research. It has been established that at the present stage, the available significant factual material has made it possible to analyze the historical-pedagogical processes of the problem under study, using both historical, regional, personological and gender approaches. The periodization of development of the historiographic base of the study is carried out. The following periods are singled out and characterized: 1) pre-Soviet period (from the middle of the XIX to 1922); 2) Soviet period (from 1922 to 1991); 3) modern period (from 1991 to present). The groups of sources of the investigated problem are outlined: 1) materials of archival funds; 2) published sources of normative-legal character on the issues of women’s gymnasium education development in the North East of Ukraine in the second half of the ХІХ – at the beginning of the XX century; 3) periodicals; 4) scientific sources; 5) memoirs, fiction. The factors of women’s gymnasium education development of the general-state and regional levels are determined, the stages of development of the studied historical-pedagogical phenomenon are distinguished: 1) protogymnasium (1855–1869); 2) reorganization and pedagogization of the educational process (1870–1883); 3) counter-reform (1884–1904); 4) democratization and diversification of women’s gymnasium education (1905–1920). The content of the educational process in women’s gymnasia in the North-East of Ukraine in the second half of the ХІХ – at the beginning of the XX century is characterized. It has been proved that priority attention in the activity of institutions of women’s gymnasium education was given to theoretical and practical; secular and religious; humanitarian, natural science and mathematical components. Extracurricular activities in women’s gymnasia gained significant importance. It has been found out that in 1917–1920 the content of the educational process of women’s gymnasia of the North-East of Ukraine was enriched with Ukrainian-language subjects: Ukrainian language and literature, history of Ukraine and geography of Ukraine.
