Essay

Institute of Pedagogics, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Kyiv, 2018. In the dissertation "Teachers Training in Poltava Province in the XIX - First Decades of the Twentieth Century" the process of forming a network of institutions that gave the right to teach in various types of educational institutions operating in the Poltava province, starting with the first quarter of the nineteenth century, was disclosed and ending in 1917. A milestone in the development of teacher training and the introduction of non-official pedagogical education in the province was the Poltava Men's Gymnasium (1808) and the Poltava Institute of noble girls (1818) creation. Their organization laid the foundation for the formation of secular education in the province. It was proved that the Institute had the opportunity to acquire education not only girls of noble origin, but also merchant daughters (since 1828), and later (from the end of the 1860's) - and girls from other strata of the population. It is proved that during the nineteenth century and until 1917 in the Poltava province there was a complicated process of the formation of professional teacher's training as a separate socio-cultural phenomenon. Constant growth in the province of the network of multi-level primary and secondary educational institutions has led to an increase in the number of educational institutions that gave their graduates the right to be a teacher. After the state reforms of the 1860's on the initiatives of zemstvos, some educational and public figures only at the beginning of the 20th century. In the Poltava province, an extensive hierarchical network of institutions for the preparing candidates for teachers' positions work was gradually formed, mainly for the primary level of education. In the first decades of the XX century this network consisted of such institutions, which activities were analyzed : Poltava orthodox religion seminary (1803), Poltava Institute of noble girls, 4 religious (orthodox) schools, 4 teacher seminaries (1904-1916), Poltava Teachers' Institute (1914), 26 female and 13 male gymnasiums of different departments (Department of the Empress Maria, Ministry of education, private institutions), which gave secondary education, 2 full and 4 incomplete female parish schools, Poltava Olexandr-Mykolay Church Teacher's School, 4 two-class men and one Zhdaniv Women's Church Teaching School with a 3-year term, various short-term pedagogical courses, and 7 two years pedagogical courses (Zen'kiv (1906), Poltava (1910), Pryluky (1911), Khorol, Kremenchug, Gadyats'k (1910), Lubny (1912)). The views of the teachers O. Levitskyi, M. Grigorievskyi, G. Istomin, who worked in educational institutions of the Poltava province, on the basics of teacher training, depicted in printed and manuscript (archive materials) works are reflected.
