Essay

The thesis is devoted to the analysis of theoretical foundations and practical implementation of the social and pedagogical support of gifted students in Australia with the aim of its further use for the development of the system of work with the gifted youth in Ukraine. In the course of the study, the goal and objectives of the social and pedagogical support of gifted students in Australia are established, the understanding of the essence of social and pedagogical support of gifted youth in the country and its components are specified, namely: the legislative and normative educational base, the activities of the state and municipal educational institutions, private funds, associations, cooperation between secondary schools and university, psychological assistance and the socialization of gifted students. The separate concepts of social and pedagogical support of gifted children in the works of the Australian scientists are considered. Based on the analysis of the historical, scientific and pedagogical literature, a periodization of the development of the Australian education system of the gifted youth is made. The main methods of the identification of gifted students are described; the practice of the nationwide testing of students for identification of academic giftedness is researched. The basic forms and means of training of gifted students are described. The content of Australia's curricula for gifted students is analyzed. The activities of the development centers and specialized educational institutions for students with high abilities are considered. The issue of training teachers to work with gifted students is researched. The concept of "social and pedagogical support of gifted" is clarified; its understanding by Australian teachers and scientists is given. The comparison of Ukrainian and Australian systems for catering the gifted youth is done, and ways of using the positive Australian scientific and pedagogical experience in Ukraine are suggested. The scientific novelty and practical significance of the results of the research for the further improvement of the system of social and pedagogical support of gifted students and the development of Ukrainian pedagogical science are given.
