Essay

The present thesis is devoted to solve the problem of waste storage from alumina production by developing, based on the experimental and theoretical researches, a method of consolidation and dewatering of red mud in the electric field. Еfficiency of the influence of an electric field on the consolidation intensity and dewatering of bauxite residues was determined. А process model equation was obtained as well as optimal parameters with regard to characterisation of dispersion system in order to ensure its low aggregation stability. Еxtent of the impact of an electric field on the ζ -potential of colloidal particles in dispersion system was estimated. Сement mixture with integrated dewatered red sludge was developed. Implementation of the developed method of red mud consolidation and dewatering in an electric field would decrease environmental risk and raise ecological safety in the areas, where large amounts of accumulated wastes from metallurgical production are stored.
