Rozlutskyi N. Armed confrontation of the Soviet regime and the Ukrainian liberation movement on the territory of the Stanislav region (1944 – 1956): military aspect.

The dissertation is devoted to the actual topic, since the subjects of the struggle of the Soviet regime and the Ukrainian liberation movement are actualized not only by the lack of elaboration of this topic from scholars and scientists, but also by the broad public inquiry for the history of the struggle for Ukrainian independence and statehood, which has intensified particularly in the context of the hybrid war with the Russian Federation. The study of armed aspects of this struggle, in particular in the regional context of the Stanislav region, requires systematization of data, deterrmine the trends, the allocation of peculiarities and the designing of the periodization of the above-mentioned confrontation.In the dissertation the aspects of armed confrontation between the Soviet regime structures and the formations of the Ukrainian liberation movement represented by the OUN and the UPA formations on the territory of the Stanislav region are comprehensively generalized. The structure of Soviet authority forces involved in the armed liquidation of the liberation movement was being studied, the role of special and auxiliary Soviet formations (agents and combat groups, eliminating battalions, groups of public order guard, etc.) have been determined. The evolution of the structure of the Ukrainian Movement for Resistance formations and its causes has been learned. The main forms and methods of the military operations conducting and armed actions of both sides of the conflict have been highlighted. The periodization of armed confrontation for the Stanislav region was being developed; this had been used while writing the third and fourth sections of the study. The progress and the consequences of armed confrontation in the different administrative units of the OUN and in the region as a whole have been investigated. The factors which had a significant impact to the opposition at different stages of its development were being revealed. It has been found out that the main factors of the Soviet victory in armed confrontation with Ukrainian nationalists were the colossal superiority of the Soviet side in military and material resources, the stabilization of the geopolitical situation in the world after the end of the Second World War and the lack of systematic assistance to the Ukrainian liberation movement from the outside.
