Essay

The aim of dissertation is increasing the efficiency of breaking- and making-up of freight trains at the gravity humps with non-mechanized retarder positions by optimizing the speed control of cuts rolling. Using the methods of mathematical statistics and correlation analysis, and the methods of risk management, the safety indicators of train breaking-up at the gravity humps with non-mechanized retarder positions were evaluated. Simulation modeling, numerical methods for solving differential equations, and the methods of mathematical programming were used to develop the methods to select the modes of train breaking-up at the gravity humps with non-mechanized retarders positions. They also were used to develop the requirements for the organization of sorting process under conditions of reducing the braking power of retarders. The theory of probabilities, the theory of shunting operation, simulation modeling, and mathematical statistics were used to improve the methods for evaluating the estimated capacity of gravity humps. The results obtained in the dissertation can be used when drawing up the technological processes of the stations operation, when planning the staff of car speed controllers, developing recommendations for hump operators, hump duty officers, and shunting dispatchers.
