Essay

The thesis is dedicated to the research into the role of set designer in scene production structuring and visual dominant evolution in the system of the modern Ukrainian theatre through the example of three generations of set designers. The thesis looks into a set design course from the D. Leader "school" to latest scenic experiments and follows the succession of suggested premises and ideas of the Master (Last Quarter of 20ieth - Early 21st Centuries). The definition of set design in the process of scene production structuring attests to the fact that the "action-based scene production", one of the most important components in the national scene production school shaped by D. Leader, remains among the most substantial factors in the scene production process. Definitely, the three generations of creators who co-exist in the single historic time and whose creative work has been analysed are not, by far, like-minded professionals in what regards their aesthetic and artistic principles or expressive measures; actually, sometimes they are quite different from one another. In the same time, we believe their work has revealed reflexions, continuity and transformation of those aesthetic fundamentals established by the Master's "school", the creators themselves being united through the spiritual and philosophic principle that permeated his perception of the Human and the World.
