Essay

The dissertation is devoted to the study of the imagological specificity of the image of Ukraine in the Polish theater of the 19th century. The absence of works of similar subjects in contemporary domestic theatrical science was indetified, in contrast to the active deployment of similar studies in other fields of humanities: literature, art, film, musicology, and cultural studies. The historiography of Ukrainian-Polish theatrical relations has been analyzed as an integral part of the establishment and development of national theatrical studies, and its periodization has been carried out. Studies of Ukrainian theater and drama historians undoubtedly point to the mechanisms of the entry of the Ukrainian early-modern cultural space into Europe, in particular, by the appropriation, adaptation and transformation of Western European art practices through a mediator-relay, which functioned in the specified period, and Polish culture in particular. This circumstance is emphasized as the basic one for shaping the image of Ukraine in the Polish theater of the early modern era.
