The thesis for the first time identifies and summarizes multidimensional development processes, which formed the figurative vocabulary of the drama theatre of Ukraine in the second half of the twentieth century in the context of creative research of creators of the Soviet dramatic art. Based on the wide factual material, the work distinguishes the impact of sociocultural factors and processes on the development of dramatic art of Ukraine, identifies the prevailing trends of the repertoire policy, artistic, ideological and thematic features of dramatic material, which significantly influenced the formation of figurative language of theater, belonging to the studied period. In the drama theatre of the second half of the 1950s-1970s. updated figurative vocabulary can be traced in the context of the reception of the creative experience of the first third of the twentieth century, primarily of the creativity of Les Kurbas. Attention is focused on expanding the range of expressive means and ways of their interaction in the imagery of the play; the revitalization of subjective creativity in the work of the Director and theatre designer. Decisive role in this process was played by the establishment and development of effective stage design, which, above all, enabled the effective line of the performance to bring to the figurative action.
