Studnytskyi I. The Synthesis of Arts in the Railway Station Architecture of Ukraine in the Late 19th – Early 20th Century.

The thesis is devoted to the artistic ensemble of railway stations of Ukraine in the late 19th century – early 20th century. It analyzes historical preconditions for development of the railway station architecture of Ukraine, investigates factors that influenced the formation of the artistic architectural ensemble of railway stations; indentifies main stages of evolution of artistic and stylistic features of railway station architecture of Ukraine in the latter half of the 19th century – early 20th century. The paper identifies historical and social factors that fostered the development of the artistic architectural ensemble of railway stations in Ukraine in the late 19th century – early 20th century. It describes main planning, volumetric-spatial, and architectural and compositional peculiarities of passenger buildings, and offers a typology of buildings based on these data. On the basis of the factual evidence, the thesis analyzes the role of separate artists in the development of the artistic ensemble of railway stations, and identifies regularities and principles of formation of the synthetic environment of railway station ensembles of Ukraine in the late 19th century – early 20th century.
